Greetings to all our Friends and Family,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! We Thank God for all of you, as you continue to support this ministry with your time and finances. My prayer is that God will continue to bless you for all you have done.
We were very encouraged to see that 222 drivers stopped in and signed the guest book in October and 184 signed in the month of November. That is 39 more drivers over the previous year total for October and 81 more for November! Mary and I have been here for three years now, and have been keeping track of the signs in sheets since we arrived. It is very exciting to see a substantial increase in drivers we are ministering to each month.
One of the reasons we are seeing an increase in drivers coming in is due to a phone app for truck drivers called “Truckers Path”. This app allows the drivers to find a safe place to stop that is close to the end of their log hours so they get the most for their time. We are listed as a truck stop even though we do not have fuel. We have a 5 star rating with the app, and it also allows drivers to leave a comment regarding the place. I would like to share a couple of the comments with you.
“Nice friendly people, free snacks and coffee 24-7 plus free breakfast and most importantly the presence of God was there! Guys, we as truckers need to support initiatives like this! Ask for Dock Hinman. –Jesse, Alpha Carriers”
“Awesome people. A must stop!”
“Friendliest place to stop on I -70”
I want to encourage all our drivers to stop in to receive our Christmas / New Year gift from us. We have ordered the peel n stick calendars for 2017 and a new ACT logo pen to give you. We just want to say how much we appreciate your commitment to this ministry, and to the national trucking industry. The gifts will be available by December 21st. Mary plans on sending each of our monthly supporters, who she keeps records for, a peel n stick calendar with the yearend giving receipts as a gift of appreciation. I also wanted to let you know that we have a good supply of T-shirts available for $15. Good selection of colors and sizes. We can ship them to you for an additional $5 to cover the cost.
We have memberships to the association available now. If you are dedicated to seeing people reached for Jesus and especially to truck drivers thru this ministry, we are once again offering membership for an annual fee of $40.00. If this is something you are interested in, you can go onto our website, acti70.org, and click on the membership tab for more information and to pay. For becoming a member, we will send you an ACT logo truckers cap and pen, as well as a certificate. You can also call me at 618-704-4366, or Mark Hewett at 507-271-6108, if you have questions regarding membership.
Our 2016 Fall Truckers Jamboree was held the first weekend of October. If you were one of the drivers who stopped in, or a volunteer that helped, or a speaker who shared God’s word with us, or a singer that came and sang or played from your heart; I want to thank you for all that you did. We had a great schedule of speakers and singers as well as wonderful food prepared for us by the tireless volunteers of ACT.
Our Spring Truckers Jamboree is scheduled to happen on May 31-June 3, 2017. Mark your calendar now. You will notice that we are starting on Wednesday and going thru Saturday this time instead of Thursday thru Sunday. We made this change to see if it allows more drivers a chance to join us. It also allows drivers and our out-of-town speakers to get home to attend their church on Sunday. Please pray and consider what God would want you to do, and make plans now to attend the jamboree. If you want to participate with speaking, or singing, or volunteer your time with kitchen duty or upkeep of the building, please contact me at either 618-704-4366 or 618-427-3737. I will be starting to organize the event in January.
We are currently in the process of replacing the water damaged laminate flooring in the chapel. We received a donation this month that allowed us to buy the new flooring and have it installed. Thank you for your help. Other projects we will be doing this winter, is the painting of the 1st floor bathrooms and possibly the truckers lounge.
Chaplain Clyde and Cheryl: For full recovery from surgeries they have recently had.
Chaplain Dock: Safety for driving down to Bradenton Florida in January for meetings.
Allen Trembath (Shorty): Prayer for wife’s declining health and major decisions needing to be made on her behalf, and wisdom in financial matters.
Chaplain Clyde Searfoss has the following devotional to leave with you today.
I would like to start out with Isaiah 9:6-7 “ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The Zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” If you take these verses, which are about the birth of Jesus our Savior, along with these next verses, it portrays the wonderful reason why we at the Road Angel want to stand up and be counted for Jesus. We know that HIS authority is in this place. Psalms 8 “Oh Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who has set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightiest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou has ordained; what is man that thou are mindful of him? And the son of man that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet. All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field, the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” It is Jesus that we need to have in this season. Jesus is the reason for this season. It’s not a complicated thing. It’s not something to fight with others over which day, when, how and where. The important factor that we need to think about at Christmas time is Jesus. It’s not a competition of who gets the most presents and what “I” can get. At this time of year, we should be lifting up Jesus name and worship and thank him for what he has done for us. We need to show honor to him because he is our Lord. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Have a wonderful Christmas and we will see you soon!
May God bless you and keep you until we meet again!
In HIS service,
Chaplain Dock Hinman
